Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

At The Seeds School we are committed to meeting the individual needs of all our pupils, offering a broad and balanced curriculum to ensure all pupils have the opportunity to achieve their full potential.  We have a highly trained cohort of staff who offer support to pupils alongside high quality teaching.

Trained professionals in school work closely to address the individual needs of pupils.  Our trained professionals include:

  • First Aiders

  • A Behaviour Support Team

  • A Liaison Officer

  • Counsellors

  • An Inclusion Team

  • Subject Specialists

Most of the needs of our pupils can be addressed within the classroom through appropriate differentiation alongside skilful teaching. We follow the graduated approach to learning whereby staff aim to “assess, plan, do, review” in order to maximize achievement and pupil well-being. The SEN policy in school is updated regularly to reflect changes made to the SEND Code of Practice for Special Educational Needs 2015 and other legislation, such as the Equality Act 2010.

Outside agencies from within the local authority work closely alongside the Special Educational Needs Manager in order to maximise potential and meet the specific needs of pupils.

Outside agencies include:

  • The Autism Outreach Team

  • The Physical and Sensory Team

  • Education Psychologists

  • The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS)

  • Speech and Language Therapy services

  • Connexions

  • Social workers

  • A School Health Advisor

  • Respect Yourself

Pastoral support is allocated to provide additional help for specific pupils when and where possible, as well as to target identified groups of students.

Specialist staff also work with specific pupils requiring further intervention and support which is monitored and reviewed in line with their specific needs.
